Redbud Players to hold auditions for ‘Escanaba in da Moonlight'

Calling all Yoopers, deer hunters and people who’d like to play them on stage. Redbud Players will hold auditions for the northwoods comedy “Escanaba in da Moonlight” from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 27 and 28 in the Columbus Public Library Annex.

The play, which was written by Michigan native Jeff Daniels and made into a movie in 2001, tells the story of the Soady clan as it gathers at the family’s cabin for the opening day of deer season.

The script calls for a cast of five men and one woman. Characters include 35-year-old Reuban Soady (who bears the dubious distinction of being the oldest Soady in the history of the Soadys never to have bagged a buck), his father Albert, his brother Remnar, and his wife Wolf Moon Dance, as well as a family friend and a ranger.

The play will be staged the first two weekends in November.
