1,000 Books Before Kindergarten

“Numerous studies estimate that as many as one in five children have difficulties learning to read.  Reading has been associated as an early indicator of academic success.  Public formal education does not typically start until ages 5-6.  Before then, parents and caregivers are the first education providers during the 0-5 early critical years. The 1000 Books Before Kindergarten challenge is a simple (read a book, any book to your child, with the goal of reading 1,000 before kindergarten) and very manageable endeavor.” (Taken from the 1,000 Books website)

Prepare your child for a lifetime of learning by participating in this free year-round early literacy program! Upon signing your child up, you will receive
logging sheets, and your child can add a submarine to our 1,000 Books Deep Dive visual. You can also keep track of your progress on Beanstack just like our summer reading challenges. Your child will receive a small prize for every hundred books read to them, and when they finish 1,000 they receive a free book to keep! Book binding for paper logs is available after completing the program.  For ages 0-5

Sign-Up Guidelines for Virtual Programs

Currently, all of our programs for all age groups are taking place virtually. This may continue to be the case for some time.

As the world moves toward a more virtual reality, at least for the time being, we need to ensure that our patrons are accessing our virtual programs safely.

  1. All Columbus Public Library programs are free and open to the public. We never charge a fee of any kind for our events.
  2. The only way to sign up for a virtual event for our library is by signing up in a Google doc in a link directly from our website or the body of the event description on our Facebook page. It would never be in a comment to that event.

Scammers post fake links for a LIVE STREAM or LIVE LINK to events in the comments section of the post to make it seem as if it is part of the event. It is not. They want your credit card information. The Columbus Public Library would never ask for that information under any circumstances.
